What is Software Defined Networking?
Software Defined Networking is an approach towards networking in
which control is taken back from
hardware and given to a software application which is called as controller.
Software Defined Networking is used mostly in Software Defined Storage, Data
Center, Software Defined Servers and Software Defined Data Center.
Software Defined Networking often states that software which is
managing hardware is separate from that hardware, but it is certain that
hardware may or may not have automation software embedded in it.
The ultimate goal of Software Defined Networking is to allow
administrators and network engineers respond quickly to changing requirements
of business. In software defined storage, without touching individual switches
a network administrator can shape traffic from a centralized control
console to anywhere. When necessary the administrator can change any network
switch's rules as he is authorized for doing that stuff like blocking specific
types of packets, prioritizing and de-prioritizing. This is what which is
especially helpful in a cloud computing multi-layer architecture
because it authorizes the administrator to manage or control traffic loads in a
flexible and more efficient way. Especially, this authorizes the administrator
to use less expensive commodity switches and have maximum control over network
traffic flow than ever before.
Software Defined Networking Deployment Models:
- Symmetric versus Asymmetric
- Flood less versus Flood Based
- Host-based versus Network Centric
Nowadays it is seen an Increasing demand for flexible and cost effective data centers along with the requirements for automatic networking configurations are playing an important role in shaping the future of the Software Defined Storage Market. Data Center Solutions can be independently operated and they can be integrated together to provide an overall cost effective solution for the data center or data centers.
The major
things which are responsible for driving this software defined networking
market are the innovations taking place in processing power, storage memory and
manual networking configurations
According to
the top research firm MarketsandMarkets the global software defined networking
market which is estimated at $396.1 million in 2013 and expected to reach to
$5.41 billion in 2018. This represents an estimated growth of 68.7% from 2013
to 2018. In the current market scenario it is seen that telecommunication
service providers continue to be the largest user for Software Defined Storage
solutions which is closely followed by cloud service providers. When it is In
terms of regions then North America is expected to be the biggest market.
Latest News
for Software Defined Networking is that AT&T Inc is going to adopt it.
