Software as a Service : Future of Application Software Delivery

Software as a Service (SaaS), sometimes called as "On Demand Software" supplied by "Internet Service Providers" or "Application Service Providers" is a software delivery model in which application software and data associated with it are centrally hosted on cloud.

Software as a Service is typically accessed by users accessing the internet via a web browser. Software as a service has become common delivery model for many application software such as content management, human resource management, enterprise resource planning, management information system, gamification, accounting, virtualization etc. SaaS providers have the potential to reduce cost by outsourcing hardware and software maintenance and support.

The majority of SaaS solutions are based on a multi level architecture. Using this model a single version of the application, with a single configuration is used for all customers or levels. The application is installed on multiple machines to support scalability, which is called as horizontal scaling.

Benefits of the SaaS model includes the following :
·         It finds easy to administrate the services.
·        Also contains automatic updates and patch management from their respective ASP’s
·         It is Compatible as all users will have the same version of software.
·         Can collaborate easily, for the same reason
·         We can access it globally.

Organizations now have the option to use application on demand or Software as a Service rather than buying the complete license of the application by the advert of internet. Flexibility of usage, low cost of implementation and a growing mindset among enterprises and business users to try web-based applications are the key factors that have contributed a lot in the growth of regional SaaS market.
